Richard Allenby-Pratt is a Dubai-based photographer, specialising in producing advertising images ‘during the day’, and documentary pictures ‘by night’. Previously based in London, where he was awarded
a silver for his personal still-life work at the London Association of Photographers 16th awards, he relocated
to the Middle East in 2000. A number of significant accolades have followed, including Middle East Advertising
photographer of the year in 2002, again for a still life campaign; The Al Thani award for landscape photography
in 2004; the EPICA advertising awards for his Volkswagen Beetle campaign in 2003; and an honourable
mention in the American International Photography Awards in 2005 for his documentary project on life after
the tsunami in Sri Lanka. Although still shooting general design and advertising photography, he is now
recognised as the Middle East’s foremost car advertising specialist. In 2004 he was a partner in the
establishment of the award-winning documentary image library ‘arabianeye’, specialising in Arabic, Middle
Eastern and Islamic subjects; and is now represented by them internationally, along with their partners, Panos
in London, Redux in New York and REA in Paris, for his documentary work. He is based at The Studio; Dubai’s top
stills-shooting facility and, in recent years, has been instrumental in setting up the Middle East Professional
Photographers group, in an attempt to contribute to the improvement of the commercial industry in this region.
He is equally committed to the effectiveness of daytime lies, and the insightfulness of night-time honesty.
